Meet the Band
Whassup with that name?
It's probably not what you are thinking...
The Commitaphobics first played years ago at an un-named popular singles event in Hilton Head. At the time the soundtrack from "the Commitments" was popular, so as a parody of the movie the members of the original "Commitaphobics" came up with the name. Fitting, the band has had at least 20 members (not all at once) but kept the same name. When we played "out" we kept the name, although none of the original Commitaphobics are in the current line up (nor will they admit to ever having been a part of it).
After years of garage banding it with various musicians, playing only for special occasions and then a five year hiatus, The Commitaphobics finally got real in 2001 as founder Doug Walters and front man T. Collie set out to form a serious band. Starting off as an acoustic trio with former vocalist Laurie Housworth, and resurrecting The Commitaphobics name, Doug convinced drummer Mark McKee at the last moment to sit in on a gig at Michael Bell's Fall Bash in October 2001 and as the night progressed a partnership was formed. Shortly after that gig, Tim Preston joined the band as lead guitarist for two years until handing the reigns to the incomparable Brad Long, thus creating the group of solid musicians that make up the core personality of The Commitaphobics.
